Children’s social and emotional development is even more crucial

It’s vital that teachers can confidently support children’s social and emotional needs as well as covering academic subjects.

Following disrupted schooling due to the pandemic, education recovery is likely to be a long-term endeavour for all children.  It is crucial that they receive support for their mental health and wellbeing, especially the most disadvantaged as they have been disproportionately impacted.  But teachers too need support as they try to rebalance the scales towards whole-child education - a feature of our work.

Thanks to public donations and grant funding since 1995, the Human Values Foundation has been transforming young lives and children’s prospects by supplying values-themed resources that pave the way for schools to develop their pupils characters and life skills, thereby blending social and emotional learning with traditional academic subjects so that whatever their innate abilities and backgrounds, the children can lay foundations that give them the best possible start to their education and life.

Our latest inspiring programme, THE BIG THINK, comprises 120 fully-resourced lesson kits for ages 5 to 11 that give  teachers the confidence they require, especially now, to help their pupils manage their physical and mental health effectively and increase their resilience.

Our work empowers teachers, enabling them to create safe environments and take action to ensure that from an early stage in their school careers, their pupils are constantly gaining personal qualities, knowledge and competencies that support their socialisation, communication, mental health and wellbeing so that they can make consistently good choices, create and maintain meaningful relationships and achieve.

Our vision is for a world with values-led citizens with good mental health and the capacity to fulfil their potential, wherever their talents and interests lie.

Our mission is to help young people to understand, protect and sustain their mental health and wellbeing, thereby enabling them to flourish and lead fulfilling lives, making positive contributions to society and helping to achieve a healthy, sustainable future for all.

Please support us so we can better support the life chances of children, especially the most disadvantaged.
