HSA MARKS REMEMBER A CHARITY WEEK

This week is Remember A Charity Week (7-13 September) and the Humane Slaughter Association is one of over 200 charities across the country taking part.

Legacies have the power to have an impact far into the future and the HSA’s work is only possible because of the generous support of those who leave a legacy.  Gifts left in wills have enabled the charity to grow from simple beginnings in 1911 to become an organisation that has led and/or contributed to major changes in attitudes towards animals, with scientific and technological developments resulting in huge improvements in methods for humane slaughter or killing.

Legacies constitute a huge tranche of the charity’s income, and have the power to make a difference to a significant number of animals worldwide.  Every day, millions of animals around the world are transported, marketed and slaughtered for food.  The potential for distress and suffering for these animals is immense and comes at a time when they are most vulnerable.

Last year, gifts in Wills helped the HSA to continue its unique programme of research, education and advice which is helping to improve farmed animal welfare around the world.

The HSA’s CEO Huw Golledge said: “We are taking part in Remember a Charity in your Will Week to help raise awareness of the importance of gifts left in Wills – perhaps the greatest gift of all.  Now more than ever the HSA is relying on gifts in Wills from supporters like you to help our work continue.  We know many of you have recently been reflecting on the things that matter the most – family, friends and the causes close to your heart. Many have also been reminded of the value of planning for the future in order to look after the things you care about most. After taking care of your family and friends, a gift in your Will, regardless of size, will ensure that we can continue to make a lasting difference to the welfare of food animals during marketing, transport and slaughter.“
