Celebrate Roald Dahl Day

Celebrate Roald Dahl Day

It’s 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl and to celebrate, there are hundreds of ways to get involved in the most fantabulous celebrations all September!

To kick start the action, the Oxford English Dictionary has revised and added entries into the dictionary from the world famous author including words ‘splendiferous, scrumdiddlyumptious and Oompa Loompa’! Plus Dahl’s very own dictionary has been launched, compiled by Dr Susan Rennie and containing 287 pages of “only really interesting words” plus beautiful illustrations from Quentin Blake.

Get writing

Use these great words of wisdom from Roald Dahl himself, to become inspired to create your own story:

  1. “You should have a lively imagination.”
  2. “You should be able to write well.”
  3. “You must have stamina.”
  4. “You must be a perfectionist.”
  5. “You must have self-discipline.”
  6. “It helps a lot if you have a keen sense of humour.”
  7. “You must have a degree of humility.”
