Teens Unite was co-founded in 2007 by Karen Millen OBE and Debbie Pezzani. It evolved out of a passion for supporting those in need and following several years of research in the teenage cancer field ascertaining what was lacking for this age bracket.
Finding little ongoing support for patients following their release from hospital or their remission classification, Debbie and Karen set up Teens Unite to fill this gap of support at a crucial time in the lives of teenagers who have had to take time out of school, work, college or university to have their treatment.
The charity remains the only charity in the country that provides help for teens at this time. Debbie and Karen both still head up the team and ensure that the unique, small, personal ethos is maintained to give make the teens feel part of the Teens Unite family.
Having opened the first Teens Unite Respite Home in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, the plan going forward is to open respite homes all across the country where teens can escape and meet others in similar situations to realise that they are not alone in their battle.
