Riding High

Date Posted: 29 Oct 2015

“I enjoyed watching my daughter smile while grooming and riding the horses,” said one pleased mother. “It was a real confidence builder. She said she has an amazing day and asked if she could come again.”

Thanks to the support of Leighton Buzzard’s Les Biggs, on the 28th of October eight children from the Bedfordshire area participated in a horse-riding workshop with Ride High. Based on evidence that contact with horses can help young people experiencing emotional difficulties, Ride High works with disadvantaged children, teaching them to ride and care for horses and ponies.

“Ride high is very unique and a fantastic opportunity for the children,” said Karly Dudley, Children’s Services Administrator. “They learn life skills and gain confidence being around the horses. All the children always enjoy this activity and learn a lot, but it’s something they wouldn’t be able to afford without us.”

Upon arrival, the children were taught how to groom the horses, before transitioning into a riding lesson and finishing with Halloween crafts in the afternoon. “My favourite part of the day was walking with the horse,” said nine-year-old Tina, who also marked the day as “awesome.”
