Illegal Gold-Panning Discovered in Madagascar

Date Posted: 15 Feb 2016

Our community-based conservation projects and permanent presence in the CAZ rainforest corridor in Madagascar are crucial to saving the remarkable lemur communities living there. At least 12 lemur species, of which 4 are critically endangered live in this area. Our team has recently discovered an illegal gold-panning operation within the CAZ, and are working with local community associations and regional authorities to prevent any further destruction. Photos of the damage caused so far can be seen below, we’ll update next month on the progress to halt this illegal activity and destruction.
