The Royal Society of Musicians is the UK’s oldest music charity and provides vital financial assistance, advice and guidance to those professionally active in the world of music but unable to work due to accident, illness or old age.
The RSM recognises the precarious nature of the freelance musician who rarely enjoys the benefits of sickness schemes and pensions and for whom, a few weeks out of work due to accident or illness, could have serious consequences both for the musician and their family. Help may be offered in many ways, whether it be living expenses, rehabilitation, counselling, referrals to specialised practitioners, or consultations with financial advisors. In some circumstances, ongoing long-term financial support is offered to retired or frail musicians, as well as those with debilitating illness.
