Isabel Hospice is a registered charity which provides a comprehensive range of specialist palliative care services free of charge for patients and their families living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in eastern Hertfordshire. From the point of diagnosis our Community Team of Clinical Nurse Specialists is on hand to offer care and advice to patients, their families and carers, to provide a vital link with local GPs and other healthcare professionals, and to refer to other areas of the Hospice service as required.
Last year over 2,700 patients, carers and family members were supported by Isabel Hospice’s services, which consist of a 16-bed In-Patient Unit providing respite care, symptom control and End of Life care, and a Day Hospice with 3 satellites which offer information, support, therapies and a safe, social environment for patients, so also providing respite for carers. It also offers a Hospice at Home Team which supports people who wish to remain in their own homes at the end of life, and a Family Support Team which provides support throughout the illness and into bereavement; this includes bereavement support for children and young people. Together they work to provide an integrated service tailored to the needs of patients as their illnesses progress. Our specialist medical staff are supported by a fully trained team of volunteers
The cost of providing these services in 2009/10 will be over £4m, of which approximately £2.8m needs to be raised from charitable sources, and so donations and gifts in Wills are vital in ensuring that these services are here for future generations.
