The Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development of children and young people ...

Following investigation into how schools are fulfilling their legal commitment to provide spiritual, moral, social and cultural education, in March 2014 the RSA, an organisation determined to find innovative, practical solutions to today’s social challenges,  issued a report entitled ‘Schools with Soul’.  It found that many primary schools were struggling with the concept and delivery and that the picture in secondary schools was even less encouraging.

The report acknowledged our contribution to providing an approach stating that: ... for the past 20 years, the non-denominational Human Values Foundation has been working to create educational programmes for UK schools, supporting teachers with materials to help students explore moral questions and leaders with tools to create a morally based environment."

To help counteract many of the education and wellbeing concerns associated with young people and the knock-on socio-economic ramifications for society generally, we are upping our fundraising efforts and contacting hundreds of primary schools, particularly those deemed to be underperforming.  We are letting headteachers know about our proven resources and the growing groundswell of enthusiasm from educationalists worldwide to promote VALUES EDUCATION and weave it into a contemporary curriculum due to:

* its appeal to children

* its contribution to both their academic and wider outcomes in and beyond school

* how the process encourages best practice and greater collaboration between all staff members, and

* how it creates meaningful and productive interactions with parents, carers and communities.
