Knutsford, 11 February 2014: The Clarion Welsby Family Foundation (charity registered in UK no. 1141275), a grant-making body founded by independent financial advisors Clarion Wealth Planning Limited, is pleased to announce that it has made a grant to help support the work of an educational charity backed by War Horse author Michael Morpurgo.

The Clarion Welsby Family Foundation has donated £500 to the Human Values Foundation, a charity that helps schoolteachers encourage the ethical, moral, emotional and social values that can help young people from deprived backgrounds to fulfil their lifelong potential. Its patron is Michael Morpurgo, the former Children’s Laureate and author of the highly acclaimed novel War Horse, which has been adapted for the cinema and West End stage with spectacular success.

This grant will be used to supply a set of resources, along with comprehensive guidance on their successful implementation, to five primary schools in deprived areas – initially benefitting more than 1,000 pupils.

Rosemary Dewan, Chief Executive of the Human Values Foundation, said, “We are most grateful to Clarion Wealth Planning, which is clearly among the growing number of businesses that are actively ‘doing well and doing good’, as this grant from the Clarion Welsby Family Foundation enables us to further our endeavours to raise the aspirations of the next generation.”

Ron Walker, Founder and Managing Director of Clarion Wealth Planning Limited, and a trustee of the Clarion Welsby Family Foundation, said, “As a parent and an employer I know only too well that academic qualifications are just one element of a rounded education. The Human Values Foundation is addressing this by helping schools in some of the most deprived parts of the country to look beyond the SATs scores and treat each child as an individual with their own moral worth.

“Clarion are great believers that taking responsibility and exercising it wisely are the keys to success in life and in business. So we are very happy to be able to support the Human Values Foundation in its work to encourage this spirit in young people whose backgrounds all too often see them being written off by mainstream society.”
