Supporting Team GB at the Paralympics

Supporting Team GB at the Paralympics

As the 2016 Paralympics Games begin in Rio, Chef de Mission Penny Briscoe has declared the Paralympics GB team are ready to complete at their most competitive games yet!

264 athletes will be taking part in Rio 2016 Paralympic Games representing GB in 19 out of 22 Paralympic sports on offer. The athletes are striving towards UK Sport’s target of 121 medals, which is one more than achieved at London 2012.

“This Games is not without its challenges, but with a very experienced team on the ground and the huge support of the British public back at home, we will give our athletes the very best opportunity to shine now that the Paralympic Games is under the spotlight.” Penny Briscoe.

This year’s Paralympics also sees two new sports making a debut in Rio. Canoe and Triathlon have been added to the competitive events and team GB have qualified more athletes than any other nation in the triathlon.

Rio is also proud to host the Games with 4,350 athletes competing which is more than any other previous Paralympics.
