The Meath Epilepsy Charity
Registered Charity Number: 200359
For almost 125 years (we celebrate our 125th anniversary in 2017), the Meath Epilepsy Charity has offered accommodation and support services to people living with epilepsy, many with additional challenging disabilities such as autism or cerebral palsy. Providing a progressive pathway of care and support, we encourage all our clients to live their lives to the full in an environment that promotes enablement and inspires confidence and self-belief.
While the Meath may have a long history, our housing and support services are bang up-to-date. We recently achieved an overall 'Outstanding' rating from the Care Quality Commission, following their inspection and don't intend to rest on our laurels but intend building on that quality as we move forward with an even wider network of services.
Today, we care for and support 80 people in housing on our main site at Westbrook Road, Godalming and assist more people through Supported Living services in their own tenancies locally. Welcoming, highly professional staff teams, a positive and proactive approach, and help that’s specifically tailored to ensure that everyone works consistently towards personal goals are all core values and are what make the Meath such a very special place.
But more than that…we always maintain that we are privileged to be working in each person’s home, rather than them coming to live in ours! This drives our approach towards ensuring privacy and that staff remain respectful, friendly and approachable at all times.
We do, however, place equal importance on the personal development and well-being of our staff as we do our clients’. To this end, our award-winning staff training and personal mentoring is one facet of the organisation that sets us apart from other care providers. In fact, nearly 30% of staff have been with us over ten years. This continuity helps forge successful relationships across the board and is fundamental in encouraging clients to express themselves fully and play an active role within the organisation.
Our housing and support adapt to changing needs. So whether people require a complete package of specialised residential care, supported living or just a few hours’ assistance in their own home, we aim to provide the same high quality service at all times. We warmly welcome the good relationships that are maintained with families, our volunteer network and local organisations, all of which helps add to the overall vibrant, happy ambience experienced throughout the organisation.
We are also extremely proud of our Skills and Enterprise Centre, which allows everyone to expand their horizons - maybe to train for a job or to try new activities and sports. I.T, creative and expressive arts, cooking, rock climbing or even parachute jumping; the sky COULD be the only limit!
