Newton Abbot, Devon

South West Equine Protection (SWEP) is a Devon based charity. It advises and follows up equine complaints of all kinds, whether they relate to moorland, private or abandoned horses and ponies, specialising in helping moorland ponies that are often otherwise forgotten. It is a small charity that is presented with new challenges every year. It owns and loans the majority of its approximately 350 rescue ponies. SWEP’s loan homes are still being affected by the “credit crunch” and with rising hay costs it is not looking to get any better. They had a number of loan ponies being returned to them needed re-homing as soon as possible. With this they also had their rescue ponies to care for and re-home. This had an extreme hit on their finances with more mouths to feed and also created more work for their volunteers. SWEP are in a fortunate position to buy its own land, but there are still lots to fund with fencing and the building of a new rehabilitation yard. Please help SWEP continue helping moorland ponies by making a donation and Gift Aid or leaving SWEP a legacy. For more information on the work they do visit
