The Seal Protection Action Group

The Seal Protection Action Group (SPAG) is dedicated to protecting seals and their habitats in the UK and worldwide through campaigns, public education and non-invasive scientific research projects.

We also support the rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured, entangled and orphaned seals through our special Mobile Seal Rescue Unit.

Our seals are under threat

Did you know many hundreds of thousands of seals are killed around the world each year?  These beautiful and intelligent mammals are constantly under threat from:

  • Rising toxic pollution and climate change

  • Deliberate hunting for fur and body parts

  • Mass culling - blamed for the collapse in commercial fisheries caused by human over-fishing

  • Shooting by salmon farmers and sports angling interests

  • Entanglement in fishing gear and discarded plastic packaging

  • Loss of critical habitat through disturbance or industrial development

  • A declining food supply caused by human over-fishing, warming oceans and ocean acidification

Please help: You can help support our vital work to protect our seals by

  • Making a donation to our campaigns fund.

  • Sponsoring our Mobile Seal Rescue Unit and receiving a special 'Seal Saver's' certificate!
