“The sun came out” for children in Tyne and Wear

Date posted: 08 Apr 2016

“Both children and staff very much enjoyed the show,” said Sabrina from Rainbow Trust. “Two children laughed non-stop, and one was singing along and told me the event was brilliant!”

On the 30th of March, eight children and their parents attended a performance of Annie, the world-famous family musical, at the Sunderland Empire Theatre in Tyne and Wear.

Following the story of a young orphaned girl as she spends Christmas with a famous billionaire, the production featured Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph and award-winning songs such as “Tomorrow.”

The event was part of KidsOut’s Fun Days service, which works to give children living in refuge or with other disadvantages the opportunity to have fun and remember what it’s like to be children. The event was arranged in conjunction with Rainbow Trust, a charity working with children living with a terminal of life-threatening condition.

“Two parents told me that this event was fantastic for giving independence and allowing children to make friends in a safe environment, which builds confidence,” said Sabrina.  “One child told me he wished there were more events like this.”
