We aim to reduce rural poverty by increasing the productivity of the working equines through the provision of training in management and welfare. We train farriers, harness makers, paravets, farmers groups and we teach in schools. We would like to provide the Gambian people with the knowledge and skills to deal with and even prevent the problems that we see. We believe that learning should be fun and we encourage the young boys who traditionally care for the donkeys to have fun and build a rapport with their donkeys through games and sport. We provide basic veterinary treatment and have mobile clinics and hospital facilities at our centre and we run a bit exchange programme. We believe that poverty is the cause of many of the animal welfare problems that we see so we are involved in community development projects which will increase the economic growth of the area.
