Columban Missionaries (also known as the Society of St. Columban and The Columban Fathers) is a Catholic organisation working in 15 countries with a special commitment to Asia and Latin America. Columbans are missionaries who aim, by what we say and what we do, to promote the message and values of the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ.
We achieve this by:
- working in solidarity with the poor and the exploited earth, for justice, peace and the integrity of creation
- promoting life-giving relationships between peoples of different cultures and religions
- facilitating the exchange of people and resources between Britain and other places where Columbans work
- raising awareness of and eliciting support for Columban mission overseas
We often find ourselves working with and accompanying people who are suffering great injustices. We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ demands that his followers challenge the scandals of poverty and injustice.
Seeking the signs of God's spirit at work in our situation, we engage in mission in cooperation with others of like vision and in openness to what God is doing among us and in our world.
'He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free and to proclaim the Lord's year of favour'
