A day at the seaside

Date Posted: 30 May 2014

Pizza, ice cream and rollercoasters were among the treats enjoyed by 26 residents and three members of staff from Liverpool’s Powerhouse Foyer when they went on a day trip, funded by CHT, to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

This particular outing was chosen by residents of the foyer as an antidote to their last few educational trips, and a chance to relax and let their hair down. The Powerhouse has a multi-cultural group of younger residents, and so a trip to the seaside was the ideal day out.

There was an excited buzz around the scheme in the days leading up to the trip, and every resident that staff passed in the corridor said “I can’t wait for Blackpool.” It had the largest take-up for a day trip that the hostel has seen, so a lot of planning was involved. With so many young adults attending, the hostel staff needed to ensure that transport, admission to the park and refreshments were all covered.

Every resident was up for breakfast and raring to go at 8am on the big day. As a surprise, CHT had funded “all-inclusive” passes for all of the residents, so they didn’t have to worry about costly fairground grub. Armed with their “all-day ride” and “all-inclusive” pass wristbands, 26 very happy young people hit the fair and enjoyed dancing in the arcades, a lunch of pizza, chips and ice cream, being spooked on a ghost train, and getting soaked or thrown around on various rollercoasters.

Mark Drury and Shukri Jama gave a massive thank you to CHT and its supporters, on behalf of all the residents, for giving them one of the best days out they have had.

To give more hostel residents fantastic days out and the chance to experience new things, please consider a donation.
