During 2012 Care Assistant Mark Perkin made a promise to show his dedication for the Ex-Service Community resident at Broughton House by entering the 25.8 mile Greater Manchester Marathon that took place on Sunday 29 April 2013.   

During the day of the race Mark was in good form and set to beat his all time personal record when tragedy struck at 17 miles in, in the form of a pothole in the road which resulted in his knee buckling causing severe pain.  Mark battled through the pain barrier and managed a further 4 miles.    

Encouragement came in the from a race marshall who wouldn’t let Mark give in spurring him on to power walk the remainder of the course despite half an hour of intense pain!

Staff and residents at Broughton House applaud Marks achievements and can not thank him enough for raising £279.40 for the Charity, a valiant accomplishment!
