The Story of Umbrage
Shortly after Tara’s father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she found her mother Miranda’s Teddy Bear, Umbrage. Miranda had died ten years previously, after suffering from the same disease. Umbrage became a symbol of the resolve and courage needed to cope with the effects of a terminal disease, not only on the sufferer but on their loved ones too. To ensure that the spirit of Umbrage and what he represents lives on, Tara founded After Umbrage to care for those who care.
Established in 2013, After Umbrage has been created to care for those who care.
We are a charity whose vision is to provide free, short breaks for anyone who has been looking after family members or loved ones with a life limiting condition. The pressure associated with caring can be overwhelming. After Umbrage provides a chance for carers to take time out to relax and unwind in idyllic surroundings, so they can return to their caring duties rejuvenated.
Founder and Trustee Tara Belcher has a clear vision for what she wants guests to gain: “I want to create a haven of peace and tranquillity. As someone who has cared for family members, I have learnt first-hand how important it is to have an opportunity to have some time for yourself.”
