We’re a small charity doing big things to help care for the landscape, economy and people in a very special place – the Yorkshire Dales.

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust exists to look after the well-being of the whole of the Yorkshire Dales. Our mission is ‘to support the environmental, social and economic well-being of the Yorkshire Dales’ and we work in many different ways to achieve it.

Our work is broad-ranging and we work with many other organisations and individuals to make it a success.

To date the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has helped to deliver over 1,300 projects worth around £25 million in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.

Some of our key achievements:

  • We've helped to plant over 1.1 million new native braodleaf trees in the Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale, creating hundreds of new woodland habitats.
  • We've re-introduced native wildflowers into more than 450 hectares of hay meadows that have lost their botanical diversity and wildlife value.
  • We've provided opportunities for 20,000 people to enjoy learning about nature through an annual festival of wildflower-themed events across the Yorkshire Dales.
  • We provide life-changing opportunities for loncal young people by co-ordinating a rural apprenticeship scheme.
  • We support innovative community projects that make a real difference to the people that live, work and visit this special place.

Our aims:

  • To conserve or restore the natural, built, scenic and cultural heritage features which together make up the special landscape of the Dales
  • To increase access for all by developing and promoting opportunities for wider access to and understanding of the Yorkshire Dales
  • To support the economic life of the area, including enhancing the employable skills
  • To support the people and communities of the Yorkshire Dales to live and work sustainably in this protected landscape
  • To support and help to develop the social and community fabric of the Yorkshire Dales

There are three key ways in which we work:

  • Raise & distribute funds to projects.
  • Manage & distribute grants on behalf of other organisations.
  • Deliver projects directly.
