The WDSA (UK) was established in 2006 as the UK National Governing Body for wheelchair dance sport and wheelchair dancing within the UK, for those who would otherwise be excluded from dancing.

The aim of the WDSA (UK) is to promote and develop wheelchair dancing as a sport and leisure activity across the country and to raise the standard of instruction and competition in the UK and internationally at all levels. We are also looking to making dancing, in whatever form it may be, FUN, exciting and something that individuals who are part of this association and who do wheelchair dance are proud to say “I can do that”.

Wheelchair Dance Sport and Wheelchair Dancing is accessible to anyone, with no boundaries in term of age limit or level of ability

The sport allows wheelchair dancers to perform together (duo-dances) or with able-bodied performers (combi-dances), if necessary being assisted by a pusher or with any aids. All styles of dance, including all Ballroom and Latin American such as Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep and Latin dances such as the Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive, and Group dances.

We are working to develop wheelchair dance sport and wheelchair dance at grass roots in the local community, through instructor training, group development and demonstrations.

We also work with, and on behalf of disabled dancers, wheelchair instructors or those involved in leading, delivering or supporting wheelchair dance or wheelchair dance sport within the UK.
