Trust PA Spinal Injury

was set up in 2002 in memory of Paul-André Blundell known as P-A to his family and all his friends.

He was born and brought up in Cardiff but after graduation lived and worked in Bath City..He was a fit, smart, happy, carismatic man who loved rugby and many sports and played in the first team for Keynsham Rugby Club in his spare time. During a match in 2001 he suffered a serious devastating neck injury and was totally paralysed and unable to breathe for himself.

During his months in rehab in the Spinal Injury Unit at Salisbury he was told by his brother and college friend of the research underway by Prof Geoffrey Raisman FRS to repair the damaged spine and restore sensation and movement using cells from the nose.

He was a courageous young man,and determined even then to be part of the research in order to possibly increase his life chances and improve his life.

However 6 months later he died from a pulmonary embolism due to questionable care issues. His family set up Trust PA to continue his vision to find a treatment to restore movement and sensation to those who suffer this devastating accident.

FACTS

In the UK paralysis from a broken neck or back accident happens every 6-8 hours in the UK

i.e. 4 x a day and 28 x a week!!! Average age is 19 years and 78% shockingly are male...

The future is looking very bright as the 1st man has been successfully repaired using a graft of nasal cells and 9 months later is now  experiencing all aspects of improvement as well as riding a trike unaided as recently seen on BBC Panorama and UTube .

SO WHY DO WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP

Trust PA Spinal Injury has helped Prof Raisman FRS to bring this important work to its current success. Another 2 patients have now been selected. So the next 10-12 patients must be treated ASAP in order to complete the tests, for treatments to be adopted into the NHS for all who may need it.

Your support now will Help Trust PA to continue funding this vital work. Lets not let money stop it happening as unlike many things they are so close to the endpoint now..

≠ WE CANT STOP ACCIDENTS HAPPENING BUT WE CAN HELP TO FUND THE REPAIR ≠
