Sylva works across Britain; caring for forests to ensure they thrive for people and for nature, and supporting innovation in home-grown wood.

Innovation is at the heart of much of our work, particularly in information technology, and this together with very wide partnership working and effective communications, means that we achieve a wide impact. We underpin our work with sound science — much of which we commission or support ourselves — that we then apply in powerful, practical ways in Britain’s forests.

Sylva was founded in 2009. Some highlights of our first five years have included: … following the full life story of the OneOak tree, developing an ecosystem services trading platform across four EU countries, engaging 2,600 people in our national survey, holding trails and exhibitions across Britain, supporting two Oxford-Sylva scholars, sponsoring an award-winning book, nurturing sustainable forest management across 35,000 hectares with 2,500 woodland owners, launching Good Woods with help from B&Q, developing a centre for innovation in wood …

The Sylva Foundation is a charity registered in England and Wales (No.1128516) and in Scotland (No.SC041892). We are working to revive Britain’s wood culture, following sustainable development principles.
