Who we are

Compassion in World Farming is the leading charity dedicated exclusively to farm animal welfare.

At the very core of Compassion in World Farming is our belief that animals should not and need not suffer. And with more than 45 billion farm animals kept in industrial systems worldwide every year, we believe that factory farming is the biggest cause of animal cruelty on the planet

What we do

For over 45 years, Compassion in World Farming has been campaigning to end the suffering of farmed animals around the world. Across the EU, we helped to ban both the barren battery cage for hens and the veal crate, and to ensure sows must not spend their entire pregnancy in a cage. But with 2 out of every 3 farm animals still suffering in factory farms worldwide, there is a lot that needs to be done.

Through high-profile public campaigns, investigations, and research, we influence policy making in order to improve the lives of billions of farm animals. We engage positively with the farming and food industries – including some of the world’s biggest producers, manufacturers and retailers – to encourage higher standards of farm animal welfare here and abroad.

Remembering farm animals in your Will

Gifts from Wills pay for up to half of everything we do. We receive no government aid and so rely entirely on legacies and other donations to continue our work. Please help give farm animals a life worth living by remembering Compassion in World Farming in your Will.

Thank you.
