Phab's aim is to "promote and encourage people of all abilities to come together on equal terms, achieve complete inclusion within the wider community and make more of life together". This is achieved by creating opportunities for disabled people to enjoy the same activities and challenges as non-disabled people, bringing them together by:
Supporting a network of 170 clubs throughout England and Wales for children, young people and adults with disabilities, with a membership of around 8,000.
Developing new Phab Clubs within local communities.
Organising an annual programme of Inclusive Living Experience Residential Projects for around 120 children and young people with disabilities aged 8 to 25 at fully accessible outdoor activity centres.
Promoting self-reliance and enhancing the living skills and abilities of young people.
Providing regional and national events for Phab clubs and members - learning, networking and having fun together.
Phab supports 170 Phab Clubs across England and Wales which are run by local volunteers and members within their own communities. The local Clubs for children, young people or adults with disabilities meet weekly or fortnightly for social, leisure and sporting activities and arrange trips out for members and their families. Phab organises regional and national events for clubs and members to enjoy together, ranging from arts and crafts days and social/networking/training weekends to special events, such as Heartbeat Hike in Hyde Park or Phab's annual Carol Concert. And Phab staff work within local communities to develop new Phab Clubs where a need has been identified.
Phab's Inclusive Living Experience Residential Projects, for children and young people with disabilities aged 8 to 25, take place in fully accessible outdoor activity centres in the New Forest and Lake District, with around 120 children involved each year supported by 90 volunteers and carers. The children can take part in all the activities, from climbing trees, kayaking, caving, swimming, and abseiling, to enjoying a disco or fancy dress party, karaoke and trips out to the seaside and the circus. The Projects are exciting, challenging and fun and have a huge impact on the confidence, independence and self-esteem as well as the personal, practical, communication and social skills of the children and young people taking part, many of whom will be away from home for the first time.
