Registered Charity Number: 1137532
IAPWA (International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals) is a very small, UK-registered charity, which is currently working on a veterinary based project in Kota Kinabalu, northern Borneo.
IAPWA is taking over the management of the city's dog pound to introduce a humane and caring approach to animal welfare whilst strategically addressing the over population crisis of the stray dogs who roam the streets. A volunteer veterinary team will be based at the pound neutering dogs at the same times as administering any veterinary care which they need (please see The Paw Print Pathway of a Pound Patient on our website www.iapwa.org). The Community Action Team (CAT) will be out in the community performing the same function but with cats as well. The CAT will also be educating children and adults in Responsible Pet Ownership and working with the government to introduce education programmes into schools.
This is a long-term project, which will make a huge difference. We have calculated that for every 150 bitches we neuter, we are preventing over a MILLION unwanted puppies from being born on to the streets in just six years!
We will go on to use our project in Kota Kinabalu as a best practice template to set up similar regimes in other areas on the island.
ANY help you can give, either financially or through fundraising for us, would be very much appreciated.
Thank you - on behalf of the street dogs of Kota Kinabalu.
