Registered Charity Number: SC042643
Charlie House was started in late 2010 to address the inadequacy of care and support currently available for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, in the North-East of Scotland.
Our charitable activities currently include organising an annual short break and a regular Saturday Club, which provide children with opportunities to try out new activities and make friends. The club, as well as our information services, provides families with a vital network of advice and support. 2017 will see the expansion of these services to reach more families and to offer targeted support to siblings, parent carers and under 5s.
The first Charlie House Community Nurse will be in post from January 2017 and will offer practical and emotional to support to families both in the community and in the hospital setting. We plan to expand this team to include additional nurses, support workers and other roles as the team develops. Our ultimate aim is to have a specialist facility in Aberdeen to provide respite and end of life care to children across the North-East.
Our vision is that all children with complex disabilities and life limiting conditions in North-East Scotland receive the necessary support they require from the very start of their life journey, including a smooth transition from hospital to home, the whole family receiving practical and emotional support, enjoying activities, making memories and living life to the full.
