About African Outreach
We work with grassroots organisations in Africa to develop and deliver life changing projects in their communities. We were set up in 2000 by Africans living in London who wanted to make a positive contribution to Africa's development.
We want to empower, both economically and politically, impoverished and marginalised communities in Africa.
We work with marginalised African communities to increase their access to the opportunities and support that will improve their standards of living. We do this through facilitating the flow of resources to these communities.
On a more local level we work to:
- Raise awareness about African development in theUKand among the African community in theUK
- Identify genuine partners who can develop and run projects that address local needs in African countries.
- Mobilise resources for these partners through fundraising inUK
In 1993, a group of concerned Africans and supporters living in Londonstarted African Outreach. The aim was to mobilise support for grassroots development across the African continent. During those first years, we were a hometown association run by volunteers who distributed books, clothes and computers to needy communities in Africa. Our funding came solely from association members.
In 2000 we registered as a charity and started partnering small projects run by community based organisations, or CBOs, on the continent. We applied for grants and obtained funds from trusts and donors. Since 2002, we have been funded mainly by Comic Relief, with additional funds being raised by our supporters.
African Outreach relies on the commitment of our supporters - thank you for your support!
