LOWER THE AGE TO TWO YEARS OLD FOR A DISABLED CHILDS FAMILY/CARER TO QUALIFY FOR MOTABILITY ALLO

Date Posted: 05 Jan 2015

PLEASE HELP US MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!.......some of you may remember when our Charlie was here myself and Chris found it impossible most days to head out. The main reason being was the difficulties we faced travelling in the car!!

We had to try and place Charlie safely into a car seat, which was very difficult, he could not control his limbs and had no head control, this along with him being a dead weight and attached to oxygen was at least a 15 minute battle, then once we were in along with the oxygen cylinders, suction machine and feeding equipment the seizures started as he was too uncomfortable.

Then...the nightmare journey which regularly involved us having to pull over and deal with a choking episode or a long seizure. In his younger days Charlie ended up fracturing 2 ribs in his car seat.

It got to a point where we could not go anywhere (on well days) so we approached Vic Young and asked if they would rent us a Wheelchair Access Vehicle (WAV) to see us through until Charlie was 3!! We sold our car so we could finance a WAV for a short term. This was a huge impact on our finances but we had to put Charlie's safety first and to try and have some quality of life! Travelling became so much easier, we would simply have all of Charlie's equipment attached to his adapted buggy/wheelchair then we would wheel him into the vehicle and wheel him off. No pressure on our backs and most importantly a comfortable and safe ride for Charlie.

The Goverment introduces financial help towards WAV vehicles and schemes are in place from the age of 3 of the disabled child. We are going to try our very best to get this lowered to 2 years old as in most cases these children will not live a long life and we must take into consideration the parents, their health, the strain and pressure they have of moving their child can be dangerous for both.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE .....sign our e petition, if we achieve 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in the House of Commons.
