A Lifetime of Collecting

A special exhibition to celebrate the 80th birthdays of two local collectors Sid Woodhams and John S

  • John Stone and Sid Woodhams

    John Stone and Sid Woodhams

John Stone and Sid Woodhams turn 80 years old on 18th and 19th March 2017 respectively. We are planning to celebrate the occasion by putting on an exhibition at the former Conservative Club, 32 Market Place, Malton for 9 days, from 18th to 26th March.

The exhibition will showcase the depth and breadth of their collecting. It will include objects that have not been on public display before and some old favourites.

Sid and John have spent the majority of their 80 years collecting and preserving items and printed material related to the history of Malton and Norton. In 2011 they very generously donated these collections to the people of Malton and Norton to become a local history resource. We are looking to raise some money to be able to celebrate Sid and John's 80th birthdays and the wonderful local history items they have saved for everyone to enjoy.

As they were born in 1937 we had the idea that £1937 would be a fantastic target to reach! All the money will be spent on exhibiting the objects and any left over will be used for the continuing care of the collection and future events and open days.
