In 2015, a group of us came together and raised £4000 during our first 'Sleep on the Streets' challenge. The money raised quite literally set-up this charity, and specifically Umoja's Rescue Centre in Kenya, where we have been rescuing homeless boys from life on the streets since September 2015.

This year, we are coming back together (with some new additions to the team) to raise vital funds to keep this project going. We are going to be braving the streets of London for the night on Saturday 3rd June and are asking you to support and sponsor us.

This year's brave team is:

Grace Wickings (Director)

Sarah Grier (Administrator)

Sophia Mutio (Finance Officer)

Umoja is a Kenya and UK based charity that exists to respond to the issue of street-living children in Kenya. We run a Rescue Centre in Mombasa, Kenya, where we rescue homeless boys throughout the year.

Our programme contains 3 main stages:

1.) Rescue - To initally rescue children from life on the streets and offer them safety in our care, where we ensure their basic needs are met.

2.) Rehabilitation - To help the street boys we work with to break their addiction to substances used on the streets to make life there more bearable. Further this, our street boys take part in individual and group counselling to help them move on from the ordeals they have experienced on the streets or beforehand.

3.) Restoration - Following careful planning, prayer and preparation we focus on reuniting these children back to their families and communities and/or enrolling them in schools in order for them to live as children deserve to.

We work following the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and our vision is to see every street child in Kenya loved, safe and free to reach their God-given potential.
