Two local men from Macclesfield, Jim Newns and Simon Hampson, will walk the length of Hadrian’s Wall 84 mile path in 48 hours to raise funds for Time Out Group. They came up with the idea when holidaying together with their families in Cumbria.
Jim explains, “We visited parts of the wall last February and walking the wall has been an ambition of mine for a number of years. Simon suggested we could attempt to walk it in two days as we both enjoy keeping fit and physical challenges. We naturally thought this would be a good opportunity to raise funds for a charity or worthy cause. Our friends Mandi Sproston and Matt Tamcken mentioned to us over a meal that Time Out Group a charity they are involved with needs support and we considered this a great charity to support. I support adults with learning disabilities and know many of the people who benefit from this service. The walk will take place towards the end of June this year. Mandi and Matt will be our support team offering food, liquids and fresh clothing etc. We are in the process of getting in the necessary training needed for a long distance walk that will include a number of 25 mile walks in preparation. We will also give a presentation to Time Out Group members before the event so they can visualise what we are doing to help”.
Time Out Group members, meanwhile, are considering how they might support the walk more locally – perhaps a walk of their own (though 84 miles would be pushing it!). Already, the Time Out Group members have decided to do a sponsored walk of their own in June (see the event page for further details)
If you would like to support Jim and Simon's endeavour please get in touch. Donations can be made via Time Out Group's fundraising page ( http://www.charitychoice.co.uk/timeoutgroup) or by cheque (Time Out Group North West).
Every bit of money will be put to good use and enrich the lives of the Time Out Group members. It is envisaged that funds raised by Jim and Simon will go towards a holiday for Time Out Group members in the summer of 2017.
