A Living Legacy

In the face of ever greater environmental challenges, we are increasingly dependent on the generosity of individuals to help us continue and expand our work programmes. Legacies are of enormous value to us, as they can support the full spectrum of our work, from developing and enhancing our four botanic gardens to delivering world-leading research programmes and education initiatives. Because of our charitable status, gifts can be exempt from tax, so a bequest to the Garden can reduce Inheritance Tax.

Our new legacy brochure, which you can download through the link below, offers a flavour of the valuable efforts a gift would support, together with simple steps on how to plan and organise your legacy.

Unrestricted bequests are extremely welcome, as they underpin the ongoing work of the Garden and enable us to allocate the funds to the areas of most need, but you can also donate to a specific area such as Education, Science & Research or one of our Regional Gardens.

To find out more about leaving RBGE a Living Legacy, please contact the Development Office using the contact details below or click the link to download the brochure.

Thank you for thinking of leaving RBGE a legacy. Your gift, whatever its size, will help us to protect plant life for future generations, and continue to connect people with the natural world.

Make a Pledge

Gifts left in wills are really important to The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. However even if you haven't made a will, making a pledge to do so in the future would help us to find out about your future intentions. Pledges are not legally binding so by filling out this form you are not committing yourself. You are simply allowing us to confidently estimate future support for our cause.

Leave a Legacy

If you have already made a will but wish to leave a legacy to a charity, you can make an addition or a change without re-writing your current will. This addition is called a codicil.

To leave a legacy to The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh please download the codicil form below and take it along to your solicitor. Please note however that this form is not legally binding on its own and has to be part of your main will. We do advise you to seek the advice of a solicitor. If you have any questions about leaving a legacy, please contact us directly we will be happy to discuss it with you.
