Sep 07 2013
A 50 mile Night Ride through the streets of Edinburgh - see the sights of this stunning city like never before - the Royal Mile, the castle, the Scott Monument.
We have 10 places available for the Edinburgh Night Ride on th 7th & 8th of September. This is a rare chance to explore the nooks & crannies of the Scottish capital at a time when there is little traffic. The route goes past Arthur's Seat with stunning night views of the city from the Royal Observatory and past the Scottish Parliament and Holyrood Palace.
This exciting bike ride is suitable for people of all ages (minimum is 18 years old, however, 14-17 year olds can take part if accompanied by an adult).
All you have to do is raise £360 (or more!) in aid of Primrose Hospice Centre of Care by asking your friends and colleagues to sponsor you, using our specially designed sponsorship forms. Please do not be put off by this amount - if you ask everybody you know to sponsor you, you will find you can quite easily raise the minimum £360 sponsorship and remember, every penny you raise over the minimum will be further contributing to Primrose Hospice Centre of Care
There is a £39 registration fee to book your place. Please remember it is a first come first serve event so do not hesitate and register NOW!
The start venue is Meadowbank Sports Centre, London Road, Edinburgh, EH7 6AE, there is car parking available at the start location for participants and they can leave their car for the duration of the challenge. The nearest train station is Edinburgh Waverley Station which is 1.6 miles away.
You are expected to provide your own bike - with lights, cycling helmet and a puncture repair kit with 2 spare inner tubes. We would advise you use a touring/road bike or if using a mountain bike, to have road tyres fitted.
There will be an event registration desk located within the Sports Centre so please ensure that you find this to register and collect your cycling pack. Registration for the event will be made available from 8pm to 10pm on Saturday 7th September 2013. There is a prompt start for this event at 11pm on Saturday 7th September 2013.
There will be regular water stops in order for riders to re-fill their water bottles. Complimentary fruit, tea, coffee and cereal bars will also be available. In addition to a hot snack stop at the half way point, we will also be serving each rider with a hot breakfast as they cross the finish line. All dietary requirements can be catered for.
The epic bike ride starts on the Saturday evening at Meadowbank, next to Holyrood Park and then cycle along Queen's Drive towards Holyrood Lodge and on to Carlton Hill with fantastic cityscape views from the top. Next you will head to Musselburgh and down to the first water stop just over 17 miles in, at Newhaven Harbour.
Feeling refreshed you will then push on for a ride along the Promenade before heading to the Royal Observatory. This is a steep climb but leads to a great view of the city. You will continue along the tranquil streets until you reach the meal stop approximately 36 miles in at Liberton Primary School.
The second water stop will be just before the Commonwealth Pool at appoximnately 46 miles, to give you that extra boost of energy for the last few miles of the fantastic route.
You will finish the challenge by cycling along Princess Street with a great view of the Scott Monument before pedaling triumphantly onto the Grassmarket and Cowgate, through the night life of the city anmd finally onto the Royal Mile and our finish line at Meadowbank.
