Phyllis Tuckwell has 18 retail shops and two showrooms throughout West Surrey and North East Hampshire. These are manned primarily by volunteers and supported by paid managers. These shops raise vital funds for Phyllis Tuckwell and help promote our presence in the community. Our shop volunteers greatly enjoy the variety of tasks, and the social interaction, and have an excellent spirit between themselves. We have just opened up a new charity shop and are appealing for volunteers. For more information on volunteering your time, please visit our website or contact us on the details provided.

Phyllis Tuckwell urgently requires more volunteer drivers and escorts, who are willing to give up a morning or afternoon of their time to transport patients between their homes and the Hospice (or) the Beacon Centre in Guildford.

The local charity – which offers supportive and end of life care to patients and their families affected by cancer or another serious progressive illness – sees over 1,000 patients a year, and is keen to ease the transport situation for as many of them as possible. Its volunteer drivers collect patients from their homes and drive them to the Hospice or the Beacon Centre so that they can attend Day Hospice, medical appointments, therapy sessions and counselling meetings. This practical support is vital to many patients, who would struggle to get to and from their appointments alone.

As well as accelerating its recruitment of drivers, Phyllis Tuckwell is also looking for more volunteer escorts to sit with patients during their journey. It offers a thorough induction programme to all of its volunteers, including vehicle training where applicable, and ongoing support for as long as it is needed.

“I get back so much more than I give” said Les, one of the Hospice’s volunteer drivers. “…the pleasure of meeting new people, who are all so grateful for the help and service we offer.”

If you are interested in volunteering as a driver or driver’s escort, please call Julia Morpeth at Phyllis Tuckwell on 01252 729400 for a no-obligation chat, or email her at: julia.morpeth@pth.org.uk
