Mansfield And Sutton Astronomical Society

Registered Charity Number: 518183
Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire

For 50 years, the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society (MSAS) has brought science into the reach of everyday people by operating its Sherwood Observatory, with its popular programme of astronomy-related events, talks and telescope viewings.

Now, MSAS wants to capture imaginations, spark curiosity and debate, and enthuse audiences with the wonders of space by creating a Science Discovery Centre and Planetarium.

Using a half-submerged, brick built Victorian underground reservoir, this will be a place where stargazers can understand the vastness of the universe, not simply see the stars as bright spots; a laboratory for future space explorers, where learning about STEM is fun; a discovery centre which builds the pipeline of talent in the local area; and a magnet for attracting tourists and locals alike: a definite win-win for everyone.
