LionHeart Legacy

Over the years, LionHeart has benefited greatly from the generosity of hundreds of people who have made a bequest to LionHeart. LionHeart is very touched by and grateful for all bequests, large or small.

There are three main types of gift:

  • Pecuniary legacy - a cash gift of any size (ie £1,000)
  • Specific bequest - item(s) of any kind eg car, house, jewellery, other household effects
  • Residuary bequest - balance of your estate after all debts, taxes, expenses and other legacies have been paid.

With the passage of time pecuniary (cash) legacies will lose value because of inflation and you may wish to index-link your cash gifts to family, friends and charity, or divide your whole estate into shares or percentages so that all of your beneficiaries will gain if the value of your estate increases between making your Will and death.  If you do decide you'd like to leave us a legacy you can use the following wording:

"I give devise and bequeath to (LionHeart, Surveyor Court, Westwood Way, Coventry CV4 8BF, Registered Charity No. 261245) the sum of £ (pounds) OR the whole (or a % share) of my residuary estate for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other proper Officer of the Fund/Society shall be a sufficient discharge therefore."

In the March 2011 Budget, the government announced that from April 2012, anyone who leaves 10% or more of their estate to charity will have their inheritance tax bill cut by 10%.  This makes legacies even more tax efficient.

Let us know if you're thinking about it...

We know that often people who leave us legacies don't tell us because they do not want to make a fuss and we can understand that, however if you do feel you can tell us and speak to us about it then please do.  It means that we can thank you and give you more information about what sorts of things your money will be spent on, it also means that we can offer support and help to you.  Please email dgoodchild@lionheart.org.uk and we'll be in touch.

Make a Pledge

Gifts left in wills are really important to LionHeart (for RICS Professionals and their Families). However even if you haven't made a will, making a pledge to do so in the future would really help us to find out about your future intentions.

Pledges are not legally binding so by filling out this form you are not committing yourself! You are simply allowing LionHeart (for RICS Professionals and their Families) to confidently estimate future support for their cause.

Leave a Legacy

If you have already made a will but you want to leave a legacy to a charity you can make an addition or change it without re-writing your current will. This addition is called a codicil.

To leave a legacy to LionHeart (for RICS Professionals and their Families) please download the codicil form below and take it along to your solicitor.

Please note however that this form is not legally binding on its own and has to be part of your main will. We advise you to seek the advice of a solicitor.

If you have any questions about leaving a legacy to us, please contact LionHeart (for RICS Professionals and their Families) directly they will be happy to discuss this with you.
