IIH Booklets now in 300 hospitals in the UK

Date Posted: 02 Jul 2014

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension is a Rare Neurological disease which affects 1-2 people in every 100,000. It can affect anyone of any age, gender, ethnicity and body type. This condition is not as widely recognised as other neurological conditions, and information therefore, is not as accessible. If left untreated it can lead to permanent partial or full visual loss.

The I Have IIH Foundation, with guidance from IIH Specialists at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, and with the aid of Big Lottery Funding, has produced a series of booklets describing treatment through to surgery, to be made available to patients with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. A total of 230 hospitals in England have received a total of nearly 8000 booklets. They have been distributed to Neurology departments who treat headache, and to Ophthalmology departments, who will hand the booklets on to patients. Distribution to the rest of the UK will follow in the near future.

The accessibility of these booklets will help to inform and empower people with IIH, in regard to making informed decisions about their treatment and care, as well as enable them to inform others of their condition. The hope is that they will help thousands of individuals in the long run to benefit from the information, as well as raise awareness of this condition.

These booklets will be available soon for download as a PDF file, on our soon to be launched information website www.ihaveiih.org and can also be ordered on request by emailing heidiwilson@ihaveiih.com. We can also be contacted via Social Media Facebook I Have IIH Foundation Twitter @IHaveIIH or via our forum I Have IIH Foundation
