The Daisy Appeal will improve the survival chances of thousands of people each year and give them and their families a brighter future.

Since it was established in 2000, the Daisy Appeal has raised £20m to fund cutting-edge research and state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

We built an £8m research centre, which opened in 2008, and in 2014 we opened the £4.5m Jack Brignall PET-CT Scanning Centre. Both are on the Castle Hill Hospital site.

We are now building an £8.75m Molecular Imaging Research Centre adjacent to the Jack Brignall PET-CT Scanning Centre so that we can produce our own radioactive tracers. This new set-up will allow us to scan patients with a number of medical conditions; initially cancer, progressing to heart  and neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s, and also having a significant role in forthcoming viral research. We have the opportunity to save many lives in East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire.

The difference this facility wil make:

Cancer

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Hull & East Yorkshire. 1 in 3 people will develop Cancer. Cancer survival can be improved by earlier and more accurate detection.

Heart Disease

Heart Disease is a leading cause of death in Hull & East Yorkshire. 1 in 4 people will develop Heart Disease. 1 in 5 will die from heart failure. Improving survival requires earlier detection and precise treatment. This will give patients a chance to change their lifestyle and improve their quality of life.

Dementia

Dementia is an increasingly common disease. Sufferers and their families have to face the consequences every day of their lives. Earlier detection will allow recognition and treatment, making the final years of life more bearable.

Just 4p of every £1 donated to the charity is spent on running costs: 96p goes directly on funding the scanning and research facilities.

If the Daisy Appeal is about one thing and one thing only, it’s about saving local lives – keeping our loved ones with us for longer.
