If you know me, you'll know I hate running. However, when the idea of doing the Great South Run was suggested at a Hampshire Search and Rescue Dog training session to raise money for the team, how could I refuse. I'm not quite the oldest operational member of the team and, having an active job, felt honour bound to do it.
The training programme started at the end of July with a gentle 30 minute jog. Needless to say, Oppo found it a lot easier than I did but I'll get there. In fact, if the training goes well, I hope to do the run in my normal operational search kit including boots and rucksack.
Please give generously. We're all volunteers (as are the dogs of course) and we fit training and operational callouts between work and family commitments. We have a good success rate and every time we find somebody, we either save a life or bring closure to a greiving family. One day it could be your nearest and dearest we deploy for.
