I had a fall in the Lake District in November 2012 just below Easedale Tarn. Unbeknown to me at the time I had fractured my right hip. Within 40 minutes of my fall members of the Langdale and Ambleside mountain rescue team were with us. Their reassurance and care of me from their arrival to when they handed me over to the paramedics at their headquarters in Ambleside was magnificent. The mountain rescue team are a voluntary organisation that is completely dependent on donations to maintain their excellent service.
It was a long road getting back on two feet again without crutches and I am immensely grateful to many - my surgeon, anaesthetist, nursing staff and the physio's at Lanacster Royal Infirmary and Broomfield, and to my wonderful family and friends.
My rehabilitation has gone well and I am working full time as a physio! However I still have a little way to go to my previous fitness levels. I am swimming regularly and plan to introduce cycling when the warmer weather arrives. My aim is to swim 1000m at our local swimming pool, a 10 mile cycle ride and 10 mile walk by the end of November 2013 and hopefully all on the same day.!!.
I am delighted to say that today, November 24th I successfully completed my challenge. I swam just over 1000m, cycled exactly 10 miles and walked around 10 miles although felt a lot longer as very muddy for the last 3 miles!!
Please sponsor me, however small the amount, so that I can give a substantial donation to the Langdale and Ambleside mountain rescue team. Thank you.
