Having spent my career in clinical medicine, I have a continuing interest in raising funds for medical research through the Charity Tenovus Scotland. This is a charity which supports pilot studies in academic departments in the West of Scotland and is invaluable in helping bright young researchers at the outset of their scientific careers.
Tenovus Scotland was founded in 1967 and since then has worked tirelessly to acheive its aims. The work of fundraising is done almost entirely by volunteers and well over 90 pence in every pound raised goes directly into research grants.
In recent years we have encouraged both grant recipients and our own committe members to take part in the Great Scottish Run ant to use sponsorship to raise funds. I will be taking part in the 10 kilometre run again on 6th October 2013 and would appreciate any support given to Tenovus on this occasion.
