Lantern Walk

Lantern Walk

Celebrate Together, Walk Together, Shine Together!

Oct 12 2013

An Autumnal dusk walk which climaxes at one of the region’s most beautiful tourist attractions will boost support and care for thousands of life limited children.

As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations Acorns Children’s Hospice is launching the Lantern Walk.

Hundreds of people are expected to support the October 12 fundraiser which begins at the picturesque lake at Walsall Arboretum and takes participants on a 12-mile route before returning to the park for a stunning laser light display on the water.

Lantern Walk participants will each carry their own battery operated lantern along the route. Live bandstand music will greet them on their return to the beauty spot which promises to be a spectacular sight as hundreds of hand-held lanterns shining brightly.

Acorns Children’s Hospice aims to help to provide palliative care to the 2,000 plus life limited children in the region living with life limiting or threatening conditions, and support for their families. The cause is encouraging families, friends, neighbours and colleagues to join together and sign up for the Lantern Walk to help support its aim.

Laura Heathfield, Events Manager at Acorns, said: “It’s going to be a magical event but we need lots of people to get involved for it to be a success.

“We rely on fundraising and income from events like this one to provide the care our children need, which costs £750 per day for each child.”

Registration is £5 and includes a paper lantern, which can be personally decorated in advance, and a 25th anniversary medal for walkers at the finish line. The route is wheelchair and buggy friendly so that everyone can be a part of this special occasion.

The Lantern Walk is being generously supported by Legal & General and First Personnel, so all funds raised will go directly towards providing vital care and support for local children and their families.
