Big Summer Sleepout
The Big Summer Sleepout 2013 is your chance to help local young homeless in your area and experience
Jun 21 2013
When and where is the Big Summer Sleepout?
Overnight on June 21st/22nd, from 7.30pm on the Friday to 7.30am on the Saturday atAldershotTownFootball Club's EBB Stadium, High Street,Aldershot, Hants. GU11 1TW
How many people will be there?
We can't be sure but we are aiming for at least 100 people to take part. You'll be in good company; we've already got the current and future Mayors of Rushmoor joining us as well as Wes Venn and "Breakfast Bev" from Eagle FM Radio!
Can I just turn up on the night?
For safety and organisational reasons, you must register beforehand and send in a completed registration form. You can however, bring the £5 registration fee with you on the night, provided you have already sent in your form.
Can I bring some mates?
Yes, of course, but they must all complete a registration form. We very much encourage groups of friends, family, colleagues, fellow church or youth club members to come along together. It all adds to the fun and spurs everybody on to raise more money.
What will happen during the evening?
We've got lots of entertainment lined up for you, including some local performers, Ayesha Lutchman and Soundblast Sinfonia and also two Step by Step clients, Tor-Christian Moor and Josh Boam. Juggling Jake the Magician will be there too!
We hold competitions during the evening too - one for the most funds raised by an individual and a group and another for "Best Cardboard Bed" so start designing and bring along everything you need to build your creation on the night - there's a prize for the best one!
Step by Step staff will tell you all about what the charity does, and some clients will tell their stories about what brought them to the charity and how Step by Step has helped them.
Will I get any sleep?
Yes, "lights-out" is at 11.30pm and on previous years, all has been quiet throughout the night. There is plenty of room on the terraces, so give yourself plenty of space to get comfortable.
Will I be safe?
The stadium will be secured during the night and stewards will be on hand in the unlikely event of an emergency. We also haveSt John'sAmbulance staff on site throughout the event.
How old do I need to be to take part?
If you are coming on your own, you must be 18 or older. Under 18's will need to be accompanied by an adult who is over the age of 21. We don't usually recommend this event for anyone below the age of 14, but if you are younger and wish to participate please get in touch. There is of course no upper age limit!
What do I need to bring with me?
The most important thing is to ensure that you remain warm and dry.
We suggest that you bring:
- a sleeping bag and waterproof cover
- a groundsheet and sponge mat
- some warm and waterproof clothing
If you want to take part in the cardboard bed competition, you will need to bring everything you need to build your design along with you, too.
Please feel free to bring your own food and drink with you, but remember that no stoves, fires, drugs or alcohol are allowed on site.
What refreshments will be available?
Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and water will be available throughout the event, with bacon (or vegetarian option) sandwiches served from 6am on Saturday morning.
How much money am I expected to raise?
We hope that every participant will raise at least £100 through sponsorship to help us towards our target, but of course the sky's the limit!
