What is the cost of a primary school lunch in the UK? I am told it’s about £2.50 per day. How many of us have raced back to school with forgotten lunches or lunch money worried our children will go hungry?

Many children in Rwanda & Uganda are fortunate to eat once a day. This ‘meal’ is usually eaten in the evening as it is easier to sleep when they are not so hungry. Parents often face the choice of a meal or an education for their children. This means they face their entire day with nothing more than a little water.

Hunger affects concentration and discipline in the classroom and increases instances of truancy as youngsters wander off in search of food.

The cost of providing lunch (a cup of porridge) for a child in these countries is £5. Not for two days but for an entire term!!!! Would you consider funding a child’s lunch for a term and help them to make the most of their time at school.
