The Children’s Society launches Emergency Appeal to be a lifeline for an isolated child, through the

The national charity, The Children’s Society, is getting ready to support the thousands of vulnerable children who are in greater danger as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. In order to continue to meet rising demand for its essential frontline services, the charity needs to raise funds at a time when the Coronavirus outbreak has had a significant impact on the charity’s ability to fundraise.

The coronavirus lockdown has trapped vulnerable children at home, hidden from view and from vital support. Many of these children are alone and trying to cope with mental health problems, fears and uncertainties, and some with their abusers.  In the current situation, giving these children help is more vital than ever and being able to talk with someone they trust can literally save their lives.

The Children’s Society’s frontline practitioners are making sure they’re still there for young people, but only if the charity continues to raise the donations it needs to fund its vital work.

Becky, from the charity’s front-line team, said: “When a child is in imminent danger we arrange an emergency response. We’re the only workers doing this for some young people.”

Donations will help the frontline staff deliver vital care packages to children in need, provide urgent support and advice and arrange an emergency response for children in imminent danger when they are too high risk or scared to do it themselves.

Mark Russell, Chief Executive of The Children’s Society, said:

“In these unprecedented times our support for vulnerable children is needed more than ever.

“The coronavirus is a threat to our health and normal way of life but it is also an indirect threat to children that are already vulnerable.  It’s vitally important that these children aren’t forgotten and our practitioners are able to give them as much support as possible.

“We are facing a significant drop in income as we’ve had to cancel fundraising events and temporarily close our shops.  We need the public to support our emergency appeal so that we can continue to support children that are in desperate need.

“Without the support right now, the impact of the coming weeks will have a deeply damaging effect on young people who were suffering so much already.  Please donate to our Emergency Coronavirus Appeal to ensure we can be there for the children who need us the most, so that they don’t have to face this crisis alone.”
