A donation sent for a sponsored child’s birthday went a lot further than that… and resulted in a lasting, wide-reaching benefit for the whole family!

After a kind UK donor sent money for their sponsored child Joel, CoH staff and mum Catherine gave it careful thought and realised she could utilise some of it to sustain her family over the year.

A birthday gift and party were a great success and the remaining money bought a bag of charcoal for the mother. Catherine then joined our business training, received a grant to boost the business (selling charcoal) and is now part of our Income Generating Activity programme.

Catherine has three children and a husband who is not working because he had a motor cycle accident, so she is very happy to be able to support her whole family.
