Supporter Engagement Volunteer

Location: Covent Garden, London

Hours: At least 1 day per week, 10 am 5pm

Reports to: Communications Officer


Cancer Support UK provides practical and emotional support to people living with cancer, both during and after the treatment period. We support people with all kinds of cancer across the UK.


We are looking for a Supporter Engagement Volunteer to join our small, friendly team in our London office. Its a great opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working for a charity, and the successful candidate will help us with communications, fundraising and events planning, as well as assisting with the smooth running of our office.


Description of Role:

The role will involve a variety of duties, including, but not limited to:

-       Researching and promoting potential fundraising events

-       Liaising and building relationships with community groups such as schools and universities

-       Assisting the Communications Officer with project planning, implementation and promotion

-       Processing applications relating to our Cancer Coach telephone support programme

-       Writing and sending letters to supporters

-       Helping to respond to enquiries from the public

-       Maintaining accurate supporter records on our database

-       Assisting other staff members with upcoming projects and events


You will be given an induction and full training on all aspects of the role, and regular opportunities to let us know other tasks you would like to do, and skills you would like to learn. We are a small team but our staff will always be on hand for support, advice and guidance.



-       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially when communicating with members of the public

-       Excellent organisational skills and an astute attention to detail

-       High levels of computer literacy, especially with regards to Microsoft Office

-       Ability to use initiative and work both independently and as part of a team

-       Willingness to take on a diverse range of tasks from a variety of staff members

-       Have  an outgoing, friendly and proactive character and an interest in gaining experience in the areas of fundraising, marketing and charity events



There is a £5.00 lunch allowance for every full day of volunteering. Travel will be reimbursed, with a maximum allowance equivalent to the daily value of a zone 1-6 London Travel card (£17 per day). Receipts must be provided to our Office Manager.
