Pennie and Rachael are cycling 60-75 miles around France in July 2018 for Star Wards
Help Pennie and Rachael raise money to improve mental health services!
We’re enormously grateful to the amazing Pennie and Rachael fundraising to help people with mental health issues. Impressively, they’re going to be cycling 60-75 miles around Northern France in the heat of July! The dynamic duo want their efforts to help mental health services and the people who use them. Here at Bright/Star Wards we are humbled and delighted they chose us as the beneficiaries of their effort.
Rachael is a hugely respected nurse who leads the City and Hackney Recovery College in East London. Rachael said she wants to help us as: “Star wards is a wonderful charity and as an RMN anything that helps mental health wards try new and more holistic based practices is a good thing! Providing ideas to improve patients care is what mental health services are all about and we are proud to try and support Star wards by raising some funds.” We are both humbled and grateful.
If you haven’t heard of us - our Bright Charity works with mental health services to improve everyone’s experiences of them – patients, staff, friends and family. Star Wards was our first project and is designed to help inpatient wards. People go through the darkest times when admitted, and many staff do a heroic job supporting them. Star Wards finds and promotes progressive practices and small changes that can and do make a huge difference. Whatever we do we develop with people in services, giving them a strong sense of ownership and commitment. Services who work with us say they have seen a very positive impact on the quality of care. About the race:
The tremendous two are taking on a gruelling challenge on our behalf and will be cycling miles in hilly France. The race is called “Wiggle French Revolution Sportive” and is only for those with strong calf muscles! Upon arrival in Calais, Pennie and Rachael will head out along the cliff-top coast roads that will test their legs straight away – they’ll climb to a vantage point that, on a good day, you can see back to England set against a backdrop of the busy to-and-fro of boats and ships sailing on the Channel. Before long, up turns to down, and they’ll be employing their best descending technique to drop into Escalles – while not forgetting this steep hill as it’ll be the last thing they have to conquer before reaching the finish line later in the day. Dropping into the Parc naturel régional des Caps et Marais d'Opale, a counter-clockwise loop ensues as they ride through pretty and sleepy French villages like Caffiers, Fiennes and Bazinghen. We wish them well and hope that a good and well-deserved glass of wine is waiting at the finish line.
The race is on Sunday 1st July 2018
